Murchison Falls National Park, also known as Kabalega National Park, is a stunning wildlife destination in Uganda. Here’s what you need to know:

Location: It’s situated in north-western Uganda, spreading inland from the shores of Lake Albert along the Victoria Nile up to the Karuma Falls.

Wildlife: You can spot elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, hyenas, and more. Take a boat cruise to see hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species.

History: Named after geologist Roderick Murchison, it was explored by John Speke and James Grant in 1862.

Size: Covering approximately 3,893 square kilometers (1,503 sq mi), it’s Uganda’s largest national park12.

Access: The nearest large town is Masindi, about 72 kilometers (45 mi) away. From Kampala (Uganda’s capital), it’s around 283 kilometers (176 mi) by road1.

Fun Fact: The park is part of the Murchison Falls Conservation Area, which includes Bugungu Wildlife Reserve and Karuma Wildlife Reserve1.
